Why Read the Bible?

There is no magic in the Bible or in the mechanical reading of the Bible.  No, the written Word points to the Living Word and says to us ‘Go to Jesus.’  If we do not go to the Jesus to whom it points, we miss the whole purpose of the Bible reading.

– John Stott -From “The Bible: Book for Today” (Leicester: IVP, 1982), p. 25.

Stott could not be any more correct if he tried to be. The words of Christ’s disciples in John 6 resonate as I think of Christ asking them if they should leave him also as the multitude did.  ‘Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”‘

Where else can we go? Christ has the words of eternal life and if we have believed we have come to know he is the Holy One of God.
