Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
– 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
I really think here of late a lot of ‘bible-believing evangelicals’ would really like to get rid of the last part of those verses. I’ve heard entirely too many people cry abomination when it comes to homosexuality.
Yes, God declares homosexuality a sin.
Yes, I believe it is a sin.
Yes, I believe marriage is only between one man and one woman.
But, I also believe that the only thing that is going to change someone who practices homosexuality is the only thing that can change the lives of fornicating heterosexuals. The gospel changes lives. Jesus changes lives. He takes sinners and washes them clean from sin, begins to sanctify them into his likeness, and will call all that are his home one day to dwell with him forever.
So vote. Vote for the amendment. I already did as an absentee voter. But as you promote what marriage should be remember that you were once unrighteous, sexually immoral, idolatrous, adulterous, greedy, drunken, reviling, and a swindler. But by the grace of God myriads can bear testimony that ‘such was I until I was washed by the blood of the Lamb.’
Don’t just cry abomination. Leviticus, Romans, 1 Corinithans, so on and so forth tell of the sinfulness of homosexuality, but they also tell of the gracious atoning work of the Lamb. Remember his gospel. Share his gospel. His gospel saves.
